TN- CM - Mr.Karunanidhi hopes Centre will cooperate on Sri Lankan Tamils issue

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday said “if the Sri Lankan government continues to ignore the Indian government’s warning to stop the attack on Tamils, we might have to find an answer to the question whether we have to be in power in the State.”

“I would like to convey this in a humble and polite way,” the Chief Minister said, addressing a public meeting to explain the party’s stand on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue.

Calling upon the Tamil leaders to come together to find a solution to the crisis in Sri Lanka, he urged the Centre to cooperate in this regard. “I hope it will cooperate. If we hope, we will win. If they cooperate, we will have a life. If they don’t cooperate, not only the Sri Lankan Tamils, but also the Tamils in Tamil Nadu, will perish,” he said.

Stating that the general council meeting of the party would discuss other ways to resolve the crisis, he expressed the hope that “the kind-hearted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi” would help to find the ways and means to find a settlement.

He said the efforts taken by the Indian government should ensure that put an end to the genocide in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Karunanidhi recalled the resolution passed in the DMK’s general council meeting in 1956 expressing solidarity with the Tamils.
