Technology to produce biodiesel from Algae to be developed

COIMBATORE: With the urgent need to replace petroleum transporation fuels in future, due to volatality in the oil prices, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) on Monday inked a memorandum of understanding with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) to develop alternative renewable energy technology.

The broad objective of the MoU was to develop a pilot plant technology for biodiesel production from algae, which possessed excellent biological frame work in its cellular capabilities, including more than 30 per cent of oil in its composition, Dr M A Siddiqui, Executive Director (R and D), BPCL, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, told reporters here.
