Bharat Heavy Electricals and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board have formed a joint venture company for setting up the first supercritical thermal power project in Tamil Nadu, India.
The joint venture (JV) has been set up for the execution of the first 2x800MW supercritical thermal power project in Tamil Nadu, with principal equity stake from Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).
With a total capital outlay of around INR87 billion, the project is expected to be the first supercritical power project to be installed in the state of Tamil Nadu and will strengthen the power availability in the state.
The present installed power generating capacity in the state of Tamil Nadu is 10,122MW, of which 5,808MW is contributed by BHEL sets. The boilers and the turbine generators will be manufactured by BHEL to technology in technical collaboration with Alstom and Siemens respectively.
These 800MW coal-fired units will be able to harness the multiple benefits of higher plant efficiencies and economies of scale, and will generate electricity in an environment friendly manner.
